Toor dal-1/2 cup
Carrot -1 n
Curry leaves - few
Onion - 1 big
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 table spoons
Turmeric powder-1/2 tea spoon
Dry red chilly - 2
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Hing/Asafoetida -2 pinches
Red chilly powder -1 table spoon
Ginger Garlic Paste _ 1 Tea spoon
Tamarind juice -1/2 cup
Tomato -1 big
Jaggery -1 tea spoon (optional)
Sambhar powder - 1 tea spoon
coriander leaves- few
For Masala
Coconut pieces-1/4 cup
cumin seeds-1 tea spoon
dhaniya seeds/coriander seeds- 1 tea spoon
Soak dal for 15 minutes and pressure cook for 2
whistles..Mash lightly,keep aside.. soak tamarind fro 15
minutes,squeeze out the juice and keep ready..
In a pan dry roast coconut,cumin,coriander seeds until you
feel aroma or may be for 2 minutes and grind into fine
paste/powder.
Chop carrots,onions,potato,tomatoes (I forgotten adding
tomato) length wise and keep aside.. Heat vessel or
skillet,pour oil..Throw the seasoning ingredients,saute for 10
seconds.. Add in vegetables,mix well. Add salt,turmeric
powder and cook for 5 minutes in low flame.
Then add in tamarind juice,let it boil..Add mashed
dal,enough water for liquid consistency,red chili
powder,sambar powder,salt,coriander leaves and mix it..Add
in ground coconut powder,stir well and boil for 5-8 minutes
in low flame.
Turn off now,serve hot with rice along with some side dish
curry..
